AMI connect from Japan is an upcycling brand that breathes new life into kimono and obi that have fulfilled their original purpose, transforming them into items that fit modern lifestyles. Mothers raising children, artisans overseas, and many others take part in the process, stitching each piece with its own story and weaving a warm cycle of "creating, using, and connecting. "

日本の美しい伝統である着物や帯を、現代のライフスタイルに寄り添うアイテムへと再構築。リメイクには、子育て中のママや家で仕事をしたい女性、バングラデシュやインドの職人たちなど、国を超えて多様な人々が関わり、手しごとを通して社会との接点を築いています。
一針一針に込められた物語が、使う人の心をやさしく包みこみ、誰かと、そして未来とつながるきっかけになります。
「つくる」「つかう」「つなげる」——そんな温かな循環を紡ぐブランドです。
Many of our kimono ribbons and accessories are crafted by women who work from home—mothers raising children, caregivers who cannot leave their households, and women who simply love making things with their hands.
We are grateful to be supported by such strong, thoughtful, and kind-hearted members, each contributing their skill and spirit to our creations.
We are also collaborating with pre-owned kimono suppliers to train individuals with disabilities in kimono cleaning and preparation. Our vision is to partner with schools, so that after graduation, they can acquire a craft—cleaning and prepping kimono for remake—that becomes a path to long-term employment. One day, we hope to welcome them as members of the AMI team.
Our leather goods are produced at our partner workshop in Bangladesh.
The most essential part of each piece is selecting and cutting the embroidery and patterns from vintage obi—a task that demands a refined aesthetic sense. Our young female artisans choose the motifs by intuition, picking what they personally find cute, beautiful, and worth bringing to life.
Many of these women once had limited opportunities simply because of their gender. Today, they work with confidence and pride, bringing vibrance and elegance into the workplace.
“Ami” (アミ / আমি) means “I” or “myself” in Bengali.
We chose this name with the hope that both the makers and the users of our products will embrace their own voice—
to live with confidence, intention, and the feeling of “This is who I am.”
In Japanese, “Ami” is also associated with the word “ami” (to weave).
It evokes the image of weaving traditions together, as well as a network of connections—like a woven mesh that expands and links people across borders.
Through our products, we hope to bridge cultures by weaving the heritage of Japan with the craftsmanship of Bangladesh, creating a network of creativity that connects the past and the present, and carries tradition into the future.
着物をほどいてクリーニングをし、巾着やリボンタイの製作は、子育て中ママさんや介護で家を離れられない女性、ものづくりが好きな女性が中心に製作をしています。
とてもガッツがあり、思いやりのあるやさしいメンバーに支えていただけることをうれしく思います。
また、中古品買い取り業者さんと協業して、着物のクリーニング作業を障がいのある方に教えられるように動いています。
その後は学校と提携して障害のある方の卒業後の就業先として、着物リメイクのクリーニングという技術を身に着けていただく活動となります。
いつかAMIで一緒に働けたらいいなと思っています。
AMIのレザー商品はバングラデシュの提携工場で製作しています。
商品の顔となるのは美しい帯の刺繍や柄を切り取る作業。
そんなセンスを問われる大事な差仕事は、若手女性スタッフが感性を活かして「可愛い、美しい」と思う帯の切り取りをしてくれています。
これまでは女性という理由で、小さな仕事しか任されなかった彼女たちが生き生きと働くことで職場に華を添えています。
「Ami」（アミ）（আমি）
ベンガル語で「私は」や「私が」という意味です。
作る人、使う人が「私が」という気持ちで主体的で自信を持った自分になれるようにとの思いを込めてこの名前になりました。
そして日本語で「編み」
伝統を編む(あむ)、「網（あみ）」、広がりや繋がりを連想させます。日本とバングラデシュから広がるものづくりのネットワーク、そして伝統と現代を編むように商品を通してつなぎ合わせ、繋ぐ架け橋となることを願っています。
